True Variations, Layer 6 of 10

48″ x 72″ (4 @ 24″ x 36″), Oil and Graphite on Canvas, 2009

The sixth layer of ten in the exploration of the theory that the only true variations occur when the same action is repeated over and over again and again. Thirty canvases were gridded to 256 squares and painted exactly the same to see if uncontrollable variations occur in a controlled environment. In adopting a factory-like mentality towards creation we free ourselves to explore other ideas long existentthat are attached to us both knowingly and unknowingly.
